4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

 From the Associate Pastor’s Desk

Dear Friends in Christ,

I began a three year assignment as associate pastor of the Whiting Catholic Community on July 1, 2012. It’s hard to believe that my three-year assignment will be ending in June of this year.

As I shared with many of you in a weekend homily this past Summer, the passion God has given my vocation lies in Catholic secondary and higher education, and while I have been blessed in abundance in parish ministry the Spirit seems to be leading me in another direction, apart from full -time parish work, apart from being a pastor or associate pastor.

I firmly believe that if you don’t “thrive” in life, you merely “survive” and that can be deadly. For several months I have been in a prayerful process with the leadership of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood to discern next steps for the ministry God has given me. Some have speculated that I have already committed to a full-time position at Bishop Noll for next year. This is not true.

I made a promise of “obedience” to my religious superiors and Christ at my ordination and am carefully listening to their feedback. It is too soon to speculate on a next assignment given all of the variables that go into making an “assignment” but I ask that you please keep the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, the local church, and me, in your prayers.

I promise to let you know where God has called me next, as soon as I know, in early Spring.

+ In Christ,

Fr. Kevin Scalf, C.PP.S.
