2nd Sunday of Christmas

This year the feast of the Epiphany is celebrated on Sunday, January 4th. The following prayers are to be used when blessing your home with holy water, which is available at the baptismal font in church. Chalk to mark the entrance of your home is also available.

We hope that our Whiting/Robertsdale Faith Community will carry on the custom of blessing their homes in the New Year. By doing so we continue the ancient custom inspired by the visit of the Magi (the Three Kings). May our homes be places of welcome for all who enter them; may the peace of Christ be shared by all, who dwell therein.

Leader: Peace, be to this house and to all who enter and dwell here.
All: Now and forever.

Leader: We bow our heads and pray for God’s blessing.
“O Lord, God Almighty, bless this house. May it be a hallowed dwelling where health, chastity, victory over sin, strength, humility, goodness of heart, gentleness, and patience reign.
“We make this prayer with gratitude to God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. May this blessing remain upon this house and those who live here.
All: Now and forever. Amen

(Leader/family member marks above the doorway with blessed chalk the symbols: 20 + C + M +B + 15 the initials of the three kings, Casper, Melchoir, and Balthazar)
All pray: “May we, in this house, and all who come to visit, to work, and to play, remember these things throughout the coming year. May all who come and enter here find peace, comfort, joy, hope, love, and salvation, for Christ has come to dwell in this house and in our hearts. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.“

Optional: Everyone may process from one room to another, while sprinkling each room with holy water, saying, “Bless this room, O Lord, (i.e. Bless this kitchen and those who prepare the food… Bless this bedroom and keep all safe who sleep here, etc)”

After the blessing of the house, a simple meal may be enjoyed by all.
